Technology Overview
Flexible Platform and Continually Improving Technology
Its development on the stable and portable base of Java and XML, supported by Money.net's extensive expertise in web-based financial data distribution, allows Market Mosaic to be easily integrated with systems and applications, quick to develop, and scalable depending on client need. The Java and XML languages are two of the most extensible and widely-accepted computing languages, and the ideal platform for unifiying an enterprise infrastructure to create a seamless, secure, networked platform. Java benefits from a massive community of developers and supporters who actively work on evolving the platform through an open, community-based, environment. In addition, the open environment and language-independent platform both creates a fast-paced environment that fosters quick data, content, and applications, but also provides users with the flexibility of hosting content or building web-based, client server-based, or desktop-based applications and the seamless integration of client-proprietary data. Money.net provides ultimate flexibility for customization of its content using a combination of XML and XSL, providing a powerful development environment. In effect, Money. Net has developed a less costly and more efficient way to deliver financial information. As a result of this state-of-the-art technology, subscribers will always benefit from new improvements and offerings without concerns about operating system or plug-in requirements.
Stable Infrastructure
All Money.net servers are hosted at the state-of-the-art, ultra-secure AT&T data facilities in New York. AT&T's premier facilities and Money.net's close proximity to the real-time data feed ensures over 99.9% uptime. Money.net applications are powered by over 120 high-end servers, which currently service an average of 10,000 simultaneous clients, and over 50 million page views per month. All user information is maintained in secure database servers on a separate VLAN, which is secure from hackers and intrusion.
Redundancy: System hardware and software redundancy
Money.net server configurations follow the classic cluster design in a functionally independent layered architecture. The first layer is configured with the high bandwidth Cisco routers for routing traffic internally to appropriate load balancer with switch management. The second functional layer consists of a cluster of web servers running Apache on Linux. The third layer runs a cluster of 120 of our core technology servers called SDS - designed to scale horizontally to support thousands of simultaneous connections in delivering market data. SDS servers are deployed on Linux for reliability and speed. The fourth layer is the innermost secure database layer for user accounts and portfolio maintenance.
Money.net Technology Architecture

Refer to the diagram above
1. A number of very powerful market information, portfolio management, stock screening, and charting applications.
2. Internet-based delivery to browsers and wireless devices.
3. Flow control and load balancing via state-of-the-art hardware and software.
4. Streaming Market Data Servers are horizontally scalable to handle thousands of simultaneous connections.
5. Database on a secure LAN.
6. Fault tolerant data source implementation on a separate VLAN.
Fail over, fault tolerance and Disaster Recovery Procedures
We have configured all our servers with monitoring scripts, tracking - CPU utilization, traffic, response time to services, system log status, memory utilization, page faults, and server down scenarios. This is linked to a central monitoring facility, which automatically sends alerts to technology operations. All source code is configuration-managed and is located in separate locations. Procedures are in place to rebuild and deploy every application quickly. All user and accounting data is backed up daily as a part of an automated process. A SWAT team adept in recovering from disaster situations is in place to operate in case of a disaster. Through its relationship with AT&T, Money.net has access to its data center network that includes 21 centers operating in three continents - 13 in the United States, 3 in Europe and 5 in the Asia Pacific region. Their center locations are carefully selected to be on or near their network peering points, thus ensuring the greatest geographic diversity in case of client relocation following a disaster.
Security & Privacy
All user and corporate account maintenance functions (new user setup, subscription activations and deletions) between customers and Money.net takes place over a 128-bit encrypted SSL based HTTP link. Additionally, any login process between customers and Money.net is handled via SSL, so that no user account information is ever publicly traded in plaintext.
