Recommended System Requirements
Memory
Recommended: 256 MB of RAM or higher (128 MB minimum) total. There should be at least 50 MB or RAM available to run Mosaic
If you are running your computer with 128 MB of RAM, it will not work as efficiently because a large amount of RAM in today's computers is consumed by the operating system (especially Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP). To check how much RAM you have on your computer, go to your desktop, right-click on "My Computer" > Properties. On the bottom of that window, it will say how many MB of RAM your computer has total.
Processor
Recommended: Pentium III or higher
Connection
Recommended: Broadband, Cable, DSL.
Dial-up is not recommended, since Mosaic is a very advanced application with a lot of bandwidth necessary to stream data correctly.
Browser
Recommended: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
Java runtime environment
Java Runtime environment (JRE), J2SE v 1.4.1_07. To download:
- Go to http://www.java.com/en/download/
- Select the JRE Download link beneath Download J2SE v 1.4.1_07
- Accept the terms and conditions to continue
- Select the Windows (U.S. English only) English link under Windows Platform
- A dialog box will pop up - choose "Open." This will begin the installation process
